When we rolled up to the cinema during the week to see what was on, I was a bit in the dark. Boxing day is usually when a lot of kids’ movies are released and obviously with good reason. If you are a parent reading this then you would be well aware of school holidays and the need to entertain the little home bods. Preferably, with a movie that is not too lame for adults to watch.
So, when I looked up to see that Big Hero 6 movie was screening, I had no idea what it was about except that it was a Disney movie. The kids were keen to see either ‘Big Hero 6’ or ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very bad Day’ but we had missed the time slot on the Alexander movie. Before seeing previews for ‘Annie’, none of us were interested in that movie either. Penguins of Madagascar was definitely of interest but again, we missed our chance, so Big Hero 6 it was – even if I was a bit unsure and hoping it was not a similar experience to ‘House Of Magic’.
So what did I think of Big Hero 6?
Big Hero 6 movie review from 3 kids and a Mum
Movie Details: 1hr 45min – Rated PG – Animation
There was one main thing I loved about this movie, from an adult perspective. It showed kids as nerds who were using their skills to achieve. It encouraged kids to be nerds and had some great self-esteem elements to it.
As far as being an adult who had to sit through a kid’s movie, it was fun. I would rate it up there with Lego Movie. Lego Movie was great but had a bit of a lull in the middle. Big Hero 6 doesn’t have that. It’s pretty much a happening movie from the get go.
The storyline is different but the usual elements are there; the evil guy, the element of surprise (or two), something to pull on the heart strings and some great action. It was a funny movie and if you watched carefully you could see little nuances that made the movie just that little bit special. I did nearly cry on 3 occasions and if you are prone to tears then take some tissues as I guarantee you will need them. My kids also said they felt emotional too in the same places I did.
The animation was very impressive and I enjoyed the movie from start to finish. My kids thought it was a great movie and we all agreed that we wanted to see it again on DVD.
Will there be a sequel? This is something the kids and I talked about after seeing the movie and we all agreed that yes, we think the ending was left open enough for that to happen. However, the movie did not feel unfinished. If there is no sequel then you still felt satisfied with the ending.
So, I have to say that I highly recommend this kid’s movie. You won’t be disappointed. Now, I will sign off by saying “fa a la, la la, la la” with a chuckle. Check out this scene then get in and see this movie. Pass on your own fa a la, la la, la la below.
Hope you enjoyed my Big Hero 6 film review. Always happy to hear about your experience.
